The Healing Magic of Unicorns

Every unicorn visit is special in its own way, but some leave an unforgettable mark on our hearts. The joy our unicorns bring is immeasurable, touching lives in ways we never expect.

One such moment happened a few years ago when we visited an assisted living facility with our beloved unicorn, Lucky—our founding unicorn who brought smiles to countless faces before passing in 2016.

For safety reasons, Lucky went without a horn that day. With frail elderly residents, we wanted to ensure no one was accidentally bumped or poked. But even without his horn, Lucky’s magic was undeniable.

A Visit to Remember

As Lucky came into the common area, his presence instantly lit up the room. Residents gathered around, eager to give him gentle pats, hugs, and even a few kisses. The joy was palpable—smiles stretched across faces, laughter echoed, and for a moment, everyday worries faded away.

Then came a special request: Could Lucky visit the memory care unit? There was a long-time resident there—a lifelong horse lover.

The Moment Everything Changed

With Lucky wearing tiny Build-A-Bear Sketchers for traction on the slippery floors, we made our way up the elevator and into the unit. As we entered, all eyes turned to Lucky, curiosity and warmth filling the room.

One by one, we made our rounds—until we reached the horse lover.

She reached out with trembling hands, softly resting them on Lucky’s back. A tear welled in her eye as she began to speak.

We held our breath.

This resident—who had not spoken a single word in years—was talking.

Her voice was quiet, her words unrecognizable to me, but the emotion behind them was clear as day. As I glanced around the room, I saw staff members with tears in their eyes, their smiles shining through.

The True Magic of Unicorns

That moment was one I’ll never forget. It was a beautiful reminder that unicorns—real or imagined—hold a special kind of magic. A magic that reaches places no words can, touching hearts in ways we can’t always explain.
